For three years were printed and reprinted three editions, each in larger circulation than the last. Then clearly shown that this irresistible blend of black comedy, burlesque, parody začikavanja and gorkoironičnih allusion to the tragic events stands out from some dry, "ultrarealističke" Arab prose of his time. Habibijev novel proved to be authentic, truly original work, colorful and fresh, although it is practically impossible to imitate, has opened up new horizons and new challenges.

Although the main events in the novel, located within the borders of Israel in 1948 and primarily depicted the hard life of the Palestinian population that remained in the homeland after the founding of the Israeli state, Opsimista hailed as an intelligent and fun to read. Sam Habibi, in an interview enjoys Ashur 1978, says his goal was to free the exploited from severe feeling that the exploiter immensely powerful and that's why he chose the anti-hero, whose actions often provoke laughter and uniting all faults against whom I was trying to fights.
